Did You Know? Bank Fees, Road Navigation
Where to get low bank fees from ATMs, and tips on road navigation.
Whether it’s your first time in France or your tenth, there are always a few tips and tricks that can make life just a little smoother. From withdrawing Euros without paying extra fees to navigating the chaotic streets of Paris and France, we've got you covered with some simple, insider advice to help you travel like a local.
How to withdraw Euros at French post office ATMs … without paying fees!

When you need extra euros in France, use an ATM at one of the many post offices in France — they do not charge a fee for withdrawal.
FTE Insider Tip: When using the ATM, you might see a prompt asking, “Do you want the withdrawal converted to the current Euro rate?”
Answer: No! The exchange rate at the French bank may be higher than the current market rate, so don’t fall for it!
You still may be charged fees from your bank at home. If you have debit cards with multiple banks, check which one has the cheapest international withdrawal fee.
How to effectively navigate the roads in France when renting a car
Don’t use the satellite navigation in your rental car — which is often confusing and outdated— pair your phone with the car instead! Once paired, enter your destination address into Google or Apple Maps using your current location at the starting point.
Step-by-step directions will be provided in English, and you’ll still see the interactive map displayed on the car screen, continually updating as you’re driving through France.
In addition, you’ll get clear directions — both verbal and visual — of which “spoke” to exit after entering one of the many roundabouts. We’ve used this method to successfully navigate around the Arc de Triomphe — during rush hour no less — in Paris!
